Met a friend for dinner here and checked online for their corkage policy. On their website, it clearly states that they have a $30 corkage fee. Upon arrival, we are informed no outside wine is allowed. I show the server their own website and get a shrug, "sorry". No one tries to make any apology beyond that. Not off to a good start! We dine here infrequently. I think the food is very good, but the service always seems rushed. We constantly have to slow them down, and take a breath between courses. Overall, this is definitely one of the better restaurants in Huntsville. The ambience can be a little loud, and, again, they could certainly be more service oriented. Expect $100-$120 pp with a decent bottle of wine.

We've been 3 times now, so I feel like I can finally give a fair review. Each time we have had great service and have enjoyed our time. It is upscale but not stuffy. The servers are very friendly and attentive. I'd recommend a reservation. We've tried various options. My favorite appetizer so far has been the NOLA shrimp. This also can be done in an entree size. The appetizer size comes with about 6 perfectly cooked shrimp. The sauce has the right amount of spice, and the grits are delish. Make sure you use the complimentary bread to soak up any leftovers! We have also enjoyed their crab claws and their crab cakes, but the NOLA shrimp are definitely my fav of the 3. I also really like their Caesar salad. It's nicely dressed with delicious pieces of cheese and croutons on top. It's $7 to add this with an entree. My fav main dish is the crusted redfish. This past time I got the scallops instead, and I regretted it. The scallops were good, but the dish felt overly creamy and rich. Maybe a squeeze of lemon would have helped. I feel like I make better scallops at home, so it wasn't worth the price to me. I'll probably stick with ordering the redfish next time. My husband got the steak special last night. He said it was "like butter." He raved about it. We don't usually order steaks at restaurants since we also feel this is something that we cook better at home, but he was very impressed with his filet! I didn't try it myself, but it looked very good. We tried a couple of cocktails this past visit, and they were fine. Nothing too special. Each cost $13-14 or so. They seem to have a nice wine list as well. We want to try their happy hour next time! All in all, a lovely spot!

Another great Christmas gathering with my sorority sister's yesterday (12/10/24) at Char! Thank you, Chris, for your attentive service and great sense of humor! Because we were exchanging Christmas gifts, Chris brought us an extra chair to put our gifts on - a very thoughtful touch. Chris was very knowledgeable about the menu items, was able to answer each question we had and was more than happy to tweak our selections to our desires. The hostess was kind as well! Restrooms were impeccably clean. The pianist in the bar was a lovely addition and he had a great smile playing to a packed crowd in the bar. Each dish was beyond delicious! WE started off with the house made Chicharrones (fried pork skins) and this time I tried the cheese dip, which was so good! My sorority sister let me taste her scallops (served over risotto with asparagus) and they were cooked to perfection and really flavorful. I went with my "go to" the (no filler added) crabcakes (a serving of 2) which were delicious as usual and very very filling! Two of our group had the shrimp and grits (86 mushrooms) and they enjoyed the light spiciness of the dish. We all departed full and happy! Chris was more than happy to split our check for ways, which is always nice. Thanks, Char, for being our new Christmas tradition, as we've met here every Christmas for at least 4-5 years now. I can't think of a better place to relax and celebrate long-time friends, beautiful holidays, and special events, in a lovely welcoming atmosphere!

Great food in an elegant setting. Waitstaff were knowledgeable and attentive but discreet. Fried green tomatoes with remoulade were sublime. Glad to have anchovies with Caesar's salad. Rare prime rib was actually rare! Pork chop was excellent. Everything was delicious. Perfect meal to close a lovely day.

Went back to Char because of the service and quality of the food , excellent service and food, had the Prime Rib medium rare with salad and garlic mashed potatoes with sour cream and a salad . All I can say is wow! Prime rib was juicy and tender the au jus was delicious, mashed potatoes were unbelievable salad was fresh and had the perfect temperature , finished it off with their pecan pie which was amazing, very thin layer of filling and tasted more of the pecans as it should be. Oh the draft beer was really good as well. Very nice dinner

I loved the upscale atmosphere of this restaurant, dim lighting nice booths or tables. Perfect for date night or celebrations. My husband and I went for our anniversary dinner. Our waitress was very attentive and helpful with menu items. We had two cocktails both wonderful. ( Around the Bend/ One Night in Tokyo) Appetizer: NOLA BBQ shrimp delicious, a tad spicy but very flavorful, served with grits (pro-tip save some bread to lap up the sauce) Entrees: NY strip with fries and Scallops with risotto and asparagus NY strip for my husband - he enjoyed his medium rare which he said could have been cooked slightly less but still tasted great; fries were hand cut always a plus. Scallops - in a fantastic butter sauce and cooked to perfection. I loved the pairing with risotto. We saw other patrons enjoying the blueberry bread pudding which looked amazing we were just stuffed! Another nice restaurant in HSV for a fun night out. They have happy hour 3-5 M-F which we've gone to before and it is wonderful. Good drink prices and yummy apps to try.

I'll update my previous reviews. I tried Char once again. Once again I find it sort of a mixed situation. The staff seems to care and is very attentive, but the place seems a bit strained to meet its mission. The food is sometimes great and then sometimes off. My ribeye had no seasoning. If I ask for steak sauce, you wasted a good cut of meat. I'd recommend adding a topping. They have multiple toppings. Great place with a nice ambiance, but it doesn't always live up to expectations.

We came for Christmas Eve brunch and it was delicious. I made a reservation a week or so in advance. Luckily they still had some availability. We had to wait about 10 minutes for our table even though we had a reservation. I got the steak Benedict and cheese grits with a side salad. All of which were delicious! Everyone seemed to enjoy what they ordered. I even ended the meal with some lemon sorbet. That was delicious. I only wish they had the ability to make espresso drinks. That would be nice. They only have drip coffee or French press.

I gotta admit, even though I had heard about this place, I had low expectations, but they impressed me. Went for Christmas Eve brunch with friends, and the experience was great. Place is very pretty, which led me to assume it was gonna be pricey, but for brunch and lunch items, most everything was $20 or under. Drink prices were also pretty average. I got a cup of the gumbo and the redfish with grits. Everything was delicious, and the redfish hit the spot perfectly. My friends also had some pretty good entrees and desserts. In all, a wonderful meal and a lovely atmosphere. Looking forward to going back.
